SEI - Stockholm Environment Institute

Established in 1989, SEI is an independent, international research institute based in Stockholm and ranked recently at number 8 in the Top 10 Global Environmental Think-Tanks. SEI’s mission is to support decision - making and induce change towards sustainable development around the world by providing integrative knowledge that bridges science and policy in the fields of environment and development. It seeks to be a leader in the creation of a new field of sustainability science aimed at understanding the fundamental character of interaction between nat ure and society, and to contribute to the capacities of societies to build transitions to more sustainable futures. Our work on sustainable consumption and production approaches; planetary boundaries and sustainable development; energy, water and resource accounting and scenarios, and carbon and ecological foot- printing have gained particular international recognition. 

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an independent and non- profit international research institute specialising in sustainable dev elopment and environment issues with 7 offices located around the world. SEI’s goal is to bring about change for sustainable development by bridging science and policy. This is done by both applied and basic research (e.g. on policy- making processes), providing integrated analysis that supports decision makers. The Institute has established a reputation for rigorous and objective scientific analysis in the field of environment and development. SEI’s approach is often highly collaborative, and stakeholder in volvement has always been at the heart of its work.
