Overview
SUSTAIN EU-ASEAN will help to coordinate high quality research in the areas of climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials. It will support EU-funded projects that have developed solutions on these issues to test the transferability of their work to the ASEAN region and initiate new and/or more effective cooperation, share knowledge and foster the uptake of research results.
The SUSTAIN EU-ASEAN focuses on climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials issues, aiming to enhance collaboration between researchers in the EU and the ASEAN region in these topics. After meeting many interesting and interested projects from the EU and ASEAN in the pre-cluster meetings, in Brussels and Bangkok respectively, SUSTAIN EU-ASEAN was able to group the projects into two broad thematic clusters: Climate Action & Cities and Natural Resources.
Cluster 1: Climate Action and Cities
This cluster involves projects working on sustainable urban development, covering aspects related to climate action and resource efficiency. The projects involved in this cluster cover a wide range of issues, including end-use energy efficiency, more sustainable urban mobility, climate change adaptation, sustainable production and consumption patterns in cities, waste recovery and treatment, and urban water management strategies, to name a few.
The significance of this cluster is underlined by the rapid growth of cities in the ASEAN region, and the significant current and forecast environmental problems in cities, air quality, water supply and climate change adaption as well as social and economic issues rated to current development patterns. Projects in the cities cluster usually take a more microscopic view on concrete actions in cities across various sectors to provide advice to local decision makers.
